Ciao Blogging Friends!
I hope everything is going well with everyone! I myself have no idea whats going on in everyone's life, I only know very little, so I am hoping that blogging will be a better way to keep in touch! I havent had a blog since, oh well uhmmm 8th grade(and by 8th grade I mean college). Dear lord, let this blog be a bit more insightful than then!
Casey was pretty much my inspiration for this since she has one, I figured why not?! My life seems pretty boring compared to the NBC lifestyle casey's got going on in LA! I can't deny hat I am jealous!
OK! So here I go...for those of you who don't know...
I spent my fall working at a business magazine in their events/marketing department which was right up my alley, but when it came time for them to hire my poor (in terms of money) sorry intern ass, there was no money coming into the magazine. AIG was one of our largest partners/sponsors and them being bailed out by the government's stimulus package meant Alyssa doesn't get hired by her dream job. SO after that blow, I spent the holiday's with my family and was back in Boston by new years to look for my next dream job, and back to square one all over again.
Looking for a job SUCKS. I probably applied for over 250 jobs in a month and a half time span. No exaggeration. I applied for waitressing jobs, admin jobs, graphic design jobs, retail jobs, receptionist jobs. I saw 2 different head hunters/temp agencies. I went to 3 job fairs, and a Boston Women's Communicators networking breakfast. I did everything in my power and contacted everyone and anyone I could think of that might be able to help me find a job. I looked on craigs list, indeed.com (a website that complies job postings from every imaginable job posting website there ever was) and I spent hours looking online and in windows for job openings. I was getting grief from every direction I searched for comfort. My parents were breathing fire down my neck asking me what I did to try to find a job every single day. It was torture for about a month and a half.
Until I happened to walk into a wine store that had just come into new management. I asked if they were hiring, and what do ya know, they were! So I just started there last weekend, but it is part time and minimum wage. Blows, but its better than nothing at all. I basically sit around, stock and read books and help customers when they come in. After applying to so many jobs and hearing back from .02% of them, I was happy to have anything. My dad helped open a new restaurant where Kendricks used to be on North Street, and they had over 400 applications for wait staff positions in the dead of winter. on cape cod. WOW. Times are really tough. And for some reason, they seem especially tough in Mass. The unemployment rate is at about 9% which is wicked high for MA.
Anyways. Enough depressing topics haha. I am really thankful to be so close to home. As much as I would love to pack up and move across the coast, I dont think I could do that for at least another few years. I am loving Boston too much right now. I have seen my mom wayyyy too much, and I have the option to go home at a whim if I feel like it. The only downside is being stuck in Boston. Not meeting new people (because lets be honest, Boston is one of the hardest places to meet people, its a fact) and I almost feel stuck. Like I can't go anywhere. I am seriously considering moving to the west coast once I am not so dependent on my family. I met this guy tonight at work and he was giving me a ton of tips about where to visit when I go out to Seattle this summer for my friends wedding. Thats right case, I'll be in your area in August...maybe we could meet half way!!!
Anyways, I realize that I am over-blogging right now, and I haven't event covered everything. Oh well, I am exhausted and I feel like I should go to sleep soon (its 9:40 here) haha but in my defense I haven't been able to sleep well in a long time.
I will continue to blog, and write more about the juicier things in my life, like boys and how I don't have a life because I am obsessed with Bella and Edward's fictional lives (yes, I am referring to Twilight--saddddd). Anywho, my mother just texted me so I should go. Thats another thing- if you guys ever need to contact my parents, they are both on facebook and have become texters. Gross...my parents are crazy.
Ok, So I love you all and can't wait to hear about your lives!!!
xoxo
